Binnur Vural was born in Ankara, Turkey in 1956. She studied sculpture at City & Guilds of London Art School. There she worked with clay and stone while also learning a variety of casting techniques in a range of materials, later choosing to cast many of her clay works in bronze; a material which is both malleable and strong enough to withstand the ravages of time. Binnur felt that bronze added an enrichening dimension to her work which she couldn't find in other materials. Her work echoes of her wide-ranging interests in archaeology, mythology and philosophy.
